Cabin Fever

As my regular readers will be aware I live on the ‘Sunshine Coast’.  Recently the region has not been living up to its name.

For the past week there has been constant rain.  I mean CONSTANT rain.  I think there may have been about 3 hours in the past week where it has not been raining.

Cue MAJOR cabin fever.  Everything is damp and I’m achy like an old lady.  It would be ok if it was a bit cooler, but it’s still humid as fuck.  I thought it would be an awesome opportunity to get some quality work done.. but am to fed up to knuckle down and crack on with my writing.

I am starting to sympathise with Jack Torrence in The Shining, where cabin fever made him so crazy he tried to hack up his family.

There is nothing else for it I think but to drink me much vino.

Tsunami? Oh My God, We Are All Going To Die!

Drinking wine on the Gold Coast on Saturday night, I wasn’t overly surprised to see a sever weather warning on the telly.  It is, after all our rainy time of year (for my many international readers – the “Sunshine Coast” is in the middle of a monsoonal low and it has been raining pretty much non-stop for a week) however it wasn’t for heavy rain or flash flooding.

It was for a bloody tsunami.  Being my fathers daughter I immediately logged onto the Queensland Bureau of Meteorology website to see YES because of the earthquake in Chile a tsunami has been created.

Cue extreme paranoia.  Turns out, I’m not so good in a crisis.  I should have had this figured out after the Oktoberfest Bus Crash of 2008, where instead or remaining calm and bracing myself, I clutched at the boy I was seeing at the time screaming we’re going to die.  I was fricking PANICKY that not only might I drown, but that I would lose my car.

This then caused me not to be able to sleep due to listening for the crashing on waves and warning sirens.  My insomnia could only be cured by a late night visit to a friend just over the way.. where a much needed cuddle calmed me down to the point where I could nap for a few hours.

Until I awoke at dawn and was out of bed every ten minutes checking to see if a killer wave had drowned my car.

So is Miss Ginger as calm, cool and collected as she likes to think she is?

Apparently not.

PS. Whilst am very glad that no Tsunami hit Australia, thoughts and prayers are with the people of Chile.. and I hope people aren’t too stingy after helping Haiti to help Chile as well xx

Supre… Not For The Over 21s

I was shopping today at the local shopping centre and I now feel terribly old.

The Plaza was full of teenagers and I was absolutely baffled as to what they were wearing.  Never mind that they are all rude little shits, I do not understand how a fake leather mini skirt and a black bikini top constitutes an outfit acceptable for going to a shopping centre.

Going into Supre I started to panic.  The music was too loud, everything I picked up was an XXS, it was full of 14 year olds (hips and breasts yet to develop) looking at t-shirts that say North Pole Dancer.  I had to leave.  I was scared that I would catch puberty of one of them.

Perhaps spinsterhood is closer than I thought??

Miss Ginger: Super-Organised!

Oh the weather outside is frightful (it’s freaking HOT and STICKY)
But the Air-Con’s so delightful (BLESS Climate Control)
And since it’s too hot to go outside
Time to shop, Time to shop, Time to shop!

With only 37 Days left until Christmas, I am pleased to brag to you all the I have be super organised this year and completed all Christmas Shopping!

The only thing left to purchase is my Mother’s stupid bird feeder, which is too big to hide at the house, so need to find a hiding place first.

DAD – Tick; NEPHEWS x 2 – Tick; GODSON – Tick; BROTHER & SISTER-IN-LAW – Tick; ALL MY CLOSEST FRIENDS & THEIR OFFSPRING – Tick!

I’ve even managed to write all my International Christmas Cards, put stamps on them and have them sitting in a pile ready to post (but still need two addresses).

Usually I have everything done by about the first week in December.. but this year I am on FIRE!  Mainly because I am broke and I have been buying gifts one pay at a time. Also because I have realised how much Sunshine Plaza (our local shopping centre for those who aren’t local) annoys me. You can never find a park, and it’s always full of teenagers, fat people and lesbians.

So I thought, “Clever Miss Ginger for getting everything done early” UNTIL I remembered that I will have to battle in the parking lot anyway as I work at the Plaza AND have volunteered to do Lifeline Christmas Wrapping this year.

So really resistance of retail centres at Christmas is futile.

Oh God, I’m Too Old For This

Last night I went out with an old school friend for dinner, drinks and a general bitch about life and gossip about our fellow graduates.

We drank ALOT. Bottles and bottles and bottles of alcohol. Today I am recovering. And you know what.. whilst I still enjoy getting dressed up and going out with my friends. I am too old to be going out on the Sunshine Coast, and particularly too old to be at Fridays.

When you are 18 (up to the age of about 20) it is great going out. Its great waking up with strange entrance stamps up and down your arm. It’s nice to walk around with them and be smug to all your underage friends and saying “look at me I went out last night!”. Today, at 25, they make you look a little trashy and you spent 15 minutes in the shower trying to scrub them off.

When you are 18 it is easy to recover from a hangover and a 2am return home. Many night I was out until 3 in the morning then off to work at 8.30 on Sunday Morning. Today, at 25, a night out renders me bedridden for pretty much a full day. I stumbled out of bed at about 11am this morning in search of vegemite toast. Then went back to bed and felt sorry for myself. It is now 4pm and I have just ventured out into the company of my parents, who are taunting me.

When I was 18, texting wasn’t a huge thing.. mobile phones were only just getting en vogue. Now I spent most of my evening wasting credit on texts to my friends across Australia and the UK professing my love for them. Thank the Lord I removed my ex’s number from my phone. I’ve learnt my lesson there before.

When I was 18 and heading to Fridays, there seemed to be a variety of age groups that went from just legal to middle age people. Now it seems that I am the oldest person in place and spend my evening watching young girls tottering around on heels they cannot walk in.

So yes, I think that perhaps I am too old for the Sunshine Coast party scene. But I did have a good time getting absolutely hammered and dancing to Mr Jones.
