Sick + Grumpy.

This morning I groggily woke up, and my throat seemed to be on fire. Yes - I have woken from my slumber with what can only be described as a bitch of a cold.

It's in those early stages where your skin feels hot but yet you are shivering, I'm sniffly, runny, blocked and mildly dellusional - all at the same time.

And yet here I am in the office, attempting to concentrate on a spreadsheet and reporting (but taking a break to write this obviously), wishing I was at home snuggled on my couch watching Downton Abbey in my pjamas.  There is no doubt that I should absolutely be doing this at this point in time - however as a contractor, sick days are not a luxury I can afford to take (and this matter is making me more grumpy).

There is absolutely no point to this post except hoping that having a whinge will make me feel much better than this lemon and ginger tea I am currently consuming.

But do let me know your wonder cold remedies (that don't involve hot lemon)

5 Things Social Hibernation Has Taught Me

Since my self imposed social hibernation I have discovered a few truths about life:

One, I genuinely do love The Boy very, very much and I love how we can make up ridiculously silly games to amuse ourselves. Blow Fish and Lick Face are particular favourites of mine and usually leave me in absolute fits of laughter on the floor.

Two, when you cut alcohol out of your weekend diet, the weight seems to fall off - in fact I'm not sure my stomach has ever been so lovely and flat. Pity I love wine too much to sustain it permanently.

Three, there really is only so many episodes of Friends you can watch. I didn't believe the day would come when I would get tired of it, but immunity to the laughs is beginning to develop.

Four, simple things are really very pleasurable. A walk around the block to look at the neighbours flowers and picking which house you'd like to live in on a lazy Sunday afternoon is actually quite delightful.

Five, no matter how extreme your boredom becomes, I am never quite bored enough to do the ironing.

Fifty Shades of.... Meh

Domestic Bliss Part 2: So many socks, so little time

As The Boy works away Monday to Thursday, sometime to Friday, I don't want to spend the little time we have together doing household chores and therefore I voluntarily, and willingly I might add, take care of washing.

This means that I tend to spend my Wednesday nights folding socks and ironing shirts. And here is my question - why is it, that men have so many socks?

And why must all these socks look exactly the same?

And for the love of all that is good and holy do I now have a box of socks labelled "The Boy's Odd Socks" for all the individual socks that don't seem to match any others. In fact, the box has also accumulated some socks that don't belong to either of us.

I fear that these questions are destined to remain unanswered for eternity, and the box of odd socks will continue to grow.

Sock puppet anyone?

Social Hibernation

Hands up who's on a budget?

It currently seems that whilst many people proclaim their need to save money and how skint they are, it seems that in my social circle I'm one of the few that is truly attempting to stick by their goals.

I am turning down most invitations for social engagements in favour of staying in. The boy and I are attempting to combat the inevitable frustration that being housebound brings by playing on the Wii, making up stupid games and working our way through 1001 movies you must see before you die. We've also become mildly addicted to playing Castleville via Facebook.
